About Me

We’re all multi-faceted individuals, so why not also my blog?

The Writing Side

Escapism is a wonderful tool that helps many people cope with whatever they’re going through. Whether they’re creating music that soothes them, on writing adventures where they’re the hero, we’ve all found out way to calm our soul. In Kevin Torres’ case, the person behind What’s Inked in my Mind, these stories weren’t lovely romances or epic adventures, but horrifying encounters. Somewhere behind clothes in a mall’s Macys, or on his laptop late at night, he created scary stories that had him looking over his shoulders. He partially blames this on his sister, who introduced him to The RingHellraiserand Child’s Play at a very young age. But with his first story being a Slenderman fanfiction, he discovered the genre that truly touches his heart: horror.

These were his first steps that would inevitably push him to get a bachelor’s in Creative Writing and an MFA in Creative Writing.

From man eating trees and a man that thinks he’s a vampire to deities older than time hiding inside the rainforest, horror has many ways to grasp what makes you tick. But there’s more beneath the fear that it creates, as horror doesn’t always have to be coming from grotesque monsters, but an abusive partner, an addiction, or grief, in the shape of something unimaginable. This is where Kevin lifts the veil to show you that supernatural horror can sometimes be very natural, and much closer to home than you’d expect.

After serving 10 years in the Army, he now teaches at a nearby college, and spends his days playing games, writing stories, and reading comics.

The Gaming Side

Since he was little, he’s been playing games upon games. From Conker’s Bad Furr Day and Body Harvest on the Nintendo 64, to now playing a variety of games, from AAA to Indie, from narrative driven to games at resemble gambling, if they can be played—and afforded—he will give it a try.

What’s important to him is that he gets to share the joy of gaming! Regardless of genre.

Currently, his favorite and go-to games are: Outlast Trials and League of Legends

The Comic Side

He recently started writing, as reading has been quiet difficult given his… attention span. He always wanted to pick up comics, but he didn’t know where to start, and saw that they were hundreds of comics of every superhero, meaning that everything was just as long as One Piece. Thankfully for him, when he read on the news about the Absolute universe (actually called Omega), it was the best time for him to explore the medium.

Now, he visits his comic shop every week to pick up a fresh batch of comics, and to his surprise, there were a lot of comics where the protagonist wasn’t flying or wearing tights. And maybe, he can share his newfound love with this medium and convince you to pick one up.

What’s My Motivation?

Through What’s Inked in my Mind, I hope to intrigue people to explore writing, comics, videogames, and join in on the conversation.

With everything I post, I hope that you feel comfortable enough to write your opinion on whatever it is that you read! Join the fun!
